SORTIR
Intervention in situ
Stock Exchange Tower, Montreal, 2010
The intervention was created by selecting office lights that were to stay lit and others to be turned off so as to display the word “Sortir” on the Montreal Stock Exchange Tower. Part of the Nuit blanche de Montréal and the Arts souterrains programming, the intervention was viewable for two consecutive weekends and could be seen as far as on Montreal’s south shore. This inscription, which is constructed with the light emitted by an office, uses an already existing energy source of the illuminated city to replay its spectacle. The dynamic of this approach favours the angle under which the artistic intervention operates from the interior of urbanistic production to reappropriate the symbolic space of the city.
