On-Off / In-Out
Video Installation
La Vitrine, galerie de l’ENSAPC, Paris, 2005
In the backroom of the exhibition space, the sentences UNE PORTE QUI CLAQUE/ UNE CLAQUE QUI PORTE pierced into wall so that one is the inversion of the other. The sentences are lit by the luminous light of a video projection. The projection displayed the filmed image of my closet door frame at the Cité Internationale des Arts de Paris, while I turned the light on and off in an attempt to simulate the light vibrations of a turned on television. This flattening of the televisual content in favour of a hypnotic experience plays on the syntax of the open and closed, which is also at work in the architecture of the sentence and of the closet.
